JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the appropriate supervisory personnel, performs the following functions for patients of all ages: Provides administrative and technical assistance. Performs laboratory procedures which require the broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Maintains equipment and records. Troubleshoots procedural and technical problems. Performs quality assurance activities related to test performance. May function in an educator, consultant, within a medical laboratory setting. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Completion of a Bachelor's Degree of an accredited technology program and eligibility for certification from a recognized national certifying organization. Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions assigned. OR Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological or Clinical Laboratory Science. Certification in a laboratory specialty. Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions assigned. Pattern I: Minimum of two years of experience as a medical technologist. Pattern II: Minimum of three years of experience as a medical technologist. Physical demands include: Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope as required. The ability to distinguish colors. Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment. May be required to stand for long periods of time. Light lifting may be required. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
